Volusia County is a vacation paradise in Central Florida, 60 miles northeast of Orlando and Disney World. Due to the economic crisis, Volusia’s tax base has dropped a staggering 25 percent in two years. But Volusia County has significantly downsized without abrupt service cuts and employee layoffs. In four years, the county has achieved $146 million in tax savings from its general fund and has reduced the workforce by 467 employees. ICMAtv finds out how they’ve done it.
